And here we are

Tue Aug 16, 2005, 9:05 AM
I figured I'd never have to use the journal function here, seeing as I have my own Live Journal and that's good enough for me. But when things are getting the way they are, I just can't be silent.

I don't pretend to understand the jark situation. I agree that his removal was unfair and that legal issues should be settled. I am glad to see that there are people on this site who are showing their support. But as always when these kinds of things happen, I worry if things are going too far. Or if it's all futile in the end.

The apparent mass exodus of moderators does seem to be something that would give the current administration pause. But the galleries of deviants being hidden and the petitions just don't seem to sound as effective. Just like with Fanfiction.net, policies won't be changed no matter how much you cry; the administration is the one in control.

Not to say that I'm condoning it. Far from it--I believe that in order to have a company, you need to listen to your employees and consumers. If they're saying something's wrong, yes you should find out what the problem is and fix it rather than stick your head in the sand like an ostrich. But I don't know if this is the right way of going about it. Everyday, people are joining because they find this to be an easy place to find and submit artwork. Even if we all leave, more will still come, and the newbies won't know of what has transpired here in the past. Maybe a better way would be to stick with what jark suggested of asking for the truth and waiting for justice.

I still believe that jark's removal was unjust, and I still believe that deviantART has lost some of the principles it was founded under. I see too many ads on each page, and I read complaints of at least one deviant who discovered deviantART stopped using a more reliable delivery system and chose one that would give them a little more money. I agree that things aren't right here, and I want for that to change. But I'm not going to lose my head over this. My gallery will still be open because I know that I can't hide it. I want people to see my artwork, no matter how bad it may be. I will still upload when I have something I want to submit. But don't take that as meaning that I don't support jark and disapprove of the actions taken by the current administration. I'm not exactly sitting on the fence; I'm waiting to see if justice pulls through. If not, then I'll see about where to go and what to do.

How can you celebrate if you're constantly afraid of getting in trouble? Being disapproved of? Life is only worth living if you do just that: LIVE it.

I've been reading it; I'm addicted almost pathetically. When you mentioned that you put your pic of Pike here, I had to put you on my watch.
